The Jules Rimet Cup
There was no competition during the years of World War II, (1939 – 1945). FIFA maintained their Zurich offices throughout the conflict but were only able to hold a Congress in 1946, which was too late to hold the competition During the war, the Italian Vice-President of FIFA, Dr. Ottorino Barassi, hid the trophy in a shoe-box under his bed. |The FIFA World Cup TM and at the 1946 Congress, the FIFA World Cup TM trophy became the Jules Rimet Cup. The competition was to be resumed in 1949 but when it was discovered no country would host it, the competition was delayed until 1949. At the time many governments believed their scarce resources might better be devoted to more urgent priorities.
